CD features a unique mix of the album just for this release - with the original 90 minute runtime mixed into one continuous 75 minute journey. STS 003: 24 Mins of Tranquil Rain (No Thunder)
In 2015 I released an mp3 of "24 Mins of Tranquil Rain", this is a brand new edit of those recordings but in their original 48 K WAV format. Just like all my soundscapes, you are not hearing one take of a single storm, but in fact are listening to a sound collage of several storms. I used five different recordings, emphasizing quiet to full rain sounds but (for the very first time) no thunder whatsoever. This lends the recording a much more tranquil vibe than any of my other rain releases. All the tapes were made on a small Tascam recorder in various locations around SE Michigan in 2011-2014. The beginning and end are designed to be very quiet, you can hear the droplets landing on the gutter, or splashing in a nearby puddle. One of the ideas behind blending several takes/storms is the ability to capture different sound fields. You can make out the close splashes, the din of the white noise from the open lawn of the backyard, and even make out a distant dog bark or bird chirp.
